Hi,
I have been searching this thread for an answer, which GC to build as my first project. Alas, unsuccessfuly.
There are zillions of versions, mods etc. For me it was close to impossible to get it all together.
So, I thought, I will ask this question in a bit different way:
Could you please recommend:
1. Best GC for high tones
2. Best GC for the mids
3. Best GC for the bass.
Or maybe should I approach this problem from a different perspective - get a cheap PS form some old junk and then decide which GC to build with this PS.
In this case, what is the voltage needed for PS for the gainclones(from, to)?
I am very sorry, for bothering you, but not spending the last couple of yeart on theese things it is very difficult to sort it all together.
Thanks,
Michal

Go for the classic NIGC or IGC. You’ll be happy with either of them as far as performance. Just be careful with the assembly to eliminate unwanted oscillations. One of the reasons I'd recomend NIGC is that it may be less sensitive in that area. But again you'll be good with any of the two topologies.
Lots of good sites explaining the details.
The best GC for lows, mids or highs is the GC.I have built both
versions (many IGC in all diff config) and the best i can state IMHO is the NIGC works best with a passive pre, the IGC works best with an active pre or buffer. All i use is battery P/S +/- 24V.
Watch grounding conns.and make good solder joints and keep the feedback resistor as close to the
chip base as possible(shortest path).Using batt P/S i have even gotten it down to 2 resistors 1 -1 uf cap ,1 chip (lm3875), 1-50k pot for 1 channel.

Thanks for all the responses. My provocation worked ;-)
Ropie - this is what I needed - great site. Thanks.

I have read some materials and have some more questions:
1. What is the reason for not using capacitors in the PS for the GC?I thought that the quality of the PS is very important for the quality of the AMP and capacitors damp the PS oscilations, don't they?
2. Is there a balanced version of the GC? Does it make sense?
Thanks for the info,
Michal
