Transformer power requirements vs dissipation vary according to what source you read. Minimum is 2x total dissipation, Nelson states 3x I think from memory.
Therefore, for A5 (300W total), you need at least 600VA in the transformer. This is 650VA, which is a compromise - the 800VA which would have been perfect just didn't sit in the case as neatly, so I opted for the 650VA (given I knew the toroid manufacturer was always conservative anyhow!)
Bass problem ?..... I haven't noticed one with either the A4 or A5.
Agree, don't put transformers in parallel. 125VA / 35V isn't useful for an Aleph.
Bias is standard from the original curcuit, I didn't modify it in any way. haven't measured it per se at this stage. (bloody work!)
Cheers,
Mark

Maybe I put these 125VA/35V in a Zen Lite amp. I see that the Zen has lower power requirements and maybe I could put one of these in each channel.

Mefinnis- this is certainly not just another Aleph 5. It's gorgeous. Would you mind sending your pics to webmaster@passdiy.com? This amp would look great in the gallery. Thanks

Hey Peter, whenever I use my skill saw with a Freud 80 tooth finishing blade (to cut MDF), I find myself wondering if sometimes a cigar is really just a cigar. 🙂
Anthony
Your logo is gorgeous too
Peter, your a Flirt and not a very subtle one at that! 🙂
Anthony
Yeah .... I thought that too, but it's so much more pleasant than watching people have shots at each other I just let it ride 😉Coulomb said:Peter, your a Flirt and not a very subtle one at that! 🙂

Oh, it was just a spontaneous reaction and using similar expression for something that is beautiful indeed.😉

Were talking about the Amp now right? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Has anybody got the email address for Conrad Engineering. I've tried searching the net but all sites found only seem to give snail mail address. I want to see if they will provide their heatsinks unfinished and snail mail to Aus. will take ages!
Help! Please!🙁

Hello,
I have very unhelthy thoughs about building this beauty, but I have a problem: I can't find the irf244 in my country. I'm asking: is there a problem if I use irfp240?(20A, 200V)
