Well now that i can post a thread.🙂 Here are my results after a few days with a Myron and Davis 7" LCD(1440x234res) This is 100" diagnal screen with a 175 watt halide. I used 2 page mags and a Kwik Kopy projector lens. The edges are a little dark but i think that's from the tube the lens sits in.(5" long) I'll post some pics of the inside after i'm all done building. Let me know what you guys think.

Your lamp may also be a little close to the LCD and the light not covering the LCD on the corners as well as it does the centre. Purhaps move him back a wee bit 🙂 If you find the tube your using isn't the culprit for the dark edges.
Hope this is of some help, well done on your projector too 🙂

Probably because the .fl of his lens is longer than the enclosure he made and has used a tube to extend it so he can focus it...just a guess lol
I didn't really want to cut it cause it's out of my projector that i use for airbrushing. But i did cut it anyway, i just ordered a new lens for my projector.🙂 It took care of most of the dark edges, i my put a third freznel in to see if that helps any more. I'd move the light back a bit but the enclosure isn't long enough, reminder to self messure twice cut once.
Anyway it's pretty good for a fist go , the 15" projector is next up and should be much better. By the way i noticed you guys use a piece of tempered glass infront of the bulb for uv? I though the MH bulbs had that built into the glass already. http://www.goodmart.com/facts/light_bulbs/hid_diagram.aspx

they say that some kind of uv filter is nessesary or your lcd will start turning yellow. i personally dont really see a difference when there is a uv filter. i do see a difference when there is a ir filter though.
i have this really small ir filter and whereever i put it the heat just seems to disapear.
thats cool. lol

Clinton the tempered glass is actually placed in front of the lamp to stop heat supposedly, I have a piece here I use from an old overhead projector does absolutely nothing. Some lamps do come with UV stop but not all check your particular model to confirm if it does, if not get yourself a sheet of UV tint from your local window tint shop they will give you an off cut for free if you ask nicely 🙂 Without it the UV rays WILL kill your LCD.
Know what ya mean bout the measure twice cut once, and still I measure incorrectly and cut the job wrong lol...
Good luck with your next venture into coffin uhm I mean 15 inch projectors 😛

Thanks for the info on the uv Hillbilly.😉 My bulb has it built in so i'm leaving the glass out. The way it is the lcd doesn't get above 37 deg C after 2 hours so it's all good i think.
I finally finished it all of and added another ferznel infornt of the lcd to compensate for the dark edges. Here are a few pics of the final projector, not as nice as some but not bad for the first go IMO.

The later results look much better than the earlier ones. 🙂
Couple of Qs:
1. Is that the "myron & davis" 7" LCD that Canadian Tire is selling for about $200 currently? I'll assume that it's the bare screen, and not the one with the DVD player as well.
2. Assuming that it is... Is that just composite input? I didn't see anything that would indicate S-Video or heaven forbid component video input on the screen electronics existing. Looking at the resolution, (1440 X 234) I'll assume that the 1440 is RGB so the "real" resolution is 480 X 234. At that I suppose that there's no need for better than composite anyway. Still looks good for that res, though.
3. Materials list! That looks more than perfectly acceptable for my purposes. I'm actually more interested in a good audio setup for my basement, but watching movies would be good, too! As such, something that I could put together on the (relatively) cheap would be excellent! Although I do like hte DIY idea, I'm not really all that much of a pioneer, I preffer to take the roads that someone else has blazed. I feel more forced into the DIY niche because commercial offerings don't do what I want, than because I want to create something new.
