AN Super 8 vs Fe206 vs Fe207

Greetings. I haven't heard the AN Super 8 but the FE207E and FE206E are very different from each other. What's similar is they can go down to ~40Hz (even lower) in the right cab, but the "right cab" for each tends to be different.

The FE207E can go in a wider range of boxes, e.g. BR, MLTL. The FE206E has the so-called "rising response" typical of a driver with a huge magnet (low Qts) and likes to go in a horn, or at least a cab that will boost the LF, but with a series resistor, it can be pushed (some might say shoved) into a BR or MLTL. That's on top of whatever strategy for BSC.

I don't know why it's such a sexy temptation to try to get the FE206E into a box for which it was not designed, and then "tame" it. I guess it's just the challenge of tweakage -- everyone thinks they will do better than others did. At least one person actually cracked it, but is it worth the trouble?

To see a "proper" enclosure for the FE206E, check out Dallas and Sachiko here: http://www.frugal-horn.com And then for contrast, check out the Big Fun Box and see if you think it can sound as good: http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/bfb_e.html

The FE207E is the easier, quicker path obviously but if you enjoy a challenge, the hard way may be the more fun way to go.
