Hi el,ol

people tell a lot of things - and will you trust somebody, who's speaker is avaiable as an animation only ?

Regarding the ESL-heil:
The construction in the sketch of Calvin will be a cavity resonator only ! It will produce a single frequency depending of the distance between the stators. Ok the distance will be small so the resonance will be at frequencies out of noticable range, but sound pressure will decrease rapidly at frequencies lower than the resonance.

Capaciti

Yes, it will be good only for freqs that have wavelengths greater than one fourth of depth of this folds, so the output range will be quite small for an esl........

with a Heil original (magnetic planar converted to a folded shape) its OK because the whole thing is quite small but with an esl its a nonsense IMHO.

Does the ESL AMT also have a vertical resonance (half wave because of two open ends)? If so, one would have to get between both.

Janszen also say their tweeter is a line array of very narrow elements.

Has anyone read this article?

People who have heard the prototype were impressed, but SPL is said to be low. What if one used a higher cutoff for the horn in order to get dynamics instead of bandwidth?

Thanks, Frank

What´s interesting: Merhaut used a number of narrow elements in his ESL compression driver. So he could have reached same dispersion and same sensitivity with a line array the way Janszen does.
How would diaphragm movement compare in both versions?
