Hello everybody.
I have some new PCM1730´s, and a pair of recycled PCM58pk´s with companion 8 times digital filter SM5803 (npc), salvaged from a defunct cdp.
As spdif receiver, I have CS8414 -real p.i.t.a. to find one here in Buenos Aires-.
Those chips are begging for some action.
I studied a lot, in the recent days, about dac grounding, etc.. My head is aching. But I´m willing to take the chance and make something decent -but relatively simple- with those chips.
I ask the following ¨multiple choice¨ question to Those Who Know:
What´s the worthest thing to do?
a)CS8414 plus PCM1730
b)CS8414 plus PCM58 (non os)
c)cs8414 plus sm5803 plus PCM58
d) None of the above, and live a life of tranquility...
Pcm1730 is very hard to solder, but I´ve managed to mount it over a ground plane, ¨dead spider style¨, with tiny cables all around. Not the neatest thing concerning parasitics, but I was thinking about shielding it in a tiny cage of copper.
The other chipos are a breeze to solder compared to that...
I have no access to make a pcb, so I stuck with the common available stuff.
Thank you very much for your input!

Hi,
if you are a handyman, why not try make some modules for each chip and a decent reuseable output stage to check out for all combinations.
I would love to see the dead spider cause i like it when diyaudio becomes art

Josch, it would be very interesting to do a ¨tandem dac¨, but pcm1730 has dual diff. outputs and pcm58 don´t.
Two different output stages would be too much fiddling...
For pcm1730 I was thinking in active IV via opa1632 dual diff. opamp, configured as simple active filters, like the IVY linestage of Twisted Pearl audio: http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/docs/linestages/ivy_schematic.pdf
but substituting LM4562 for TPA6120 for convertion to single ended, cause I have some in my box and I like very much it´s sound when used as line driver.
But the idea is seductive, of course.

this is what the pcm1730 looks like
