i snatched up the resent recommended venTed box for a rockford fosgate 12” p3…. It just so happened to fit in the HR suggestion/thumb rule for port tuning/length/hopefully incompressible mass/shape?

As far as I can see:
A BR is a simplified vented design where it is normal to ignore some crucial detail during the design process.
A TL can be a PROPERLY designed BR, or something completely different.

Yeah, I was confused by the very high tuned and peaky box design. (Car audio is strange) ?

Yeah, the mobile audio crowd typically want/need a 'one note' sub, which is in most cases is the correct alignment in general, but often not properly designed for the vehicle, i.e. a few generic alignments for the different vehicle model sizes.

It was just a generic TL sim using the exact same volume and tuning. Apples to apples.
I used a much larger tapered 1/3 offset TL for this driver tuned @ 28 hz. I thought the manufacturers spec vented design was awkward?
