My reply was a bit long, but pretty much I told HIM to search on line and figure out exactly what he's got. I told him I might pay $2700 but they better be working fine....
Honestly, sometimes I wonder about people.
Maybe he's planning on burning his house down and tell the insurance company his amps are worth $27K because that's what he posted on eBay.
No clue.

apparently that guy has no clue
ebay is a weird place, sometimes people buy overpriced stuff, either by mistake, or because of lack of knowledge
there is near to zero chance he will sell it

So, the seller finally replies to me... when I offered him $2700 -and reality hits him on the head:
212supreme
I think they also make kits for Ferrari s that are cheaper than the originals. I think 2700 is a great deal for anything semi close to these. This is maybe best for a collector since they are so rare
So, I guess this guy really isn't gonna sell.... unless he finds a Milli Vanilli "collector"... and with all due respect to Nelson Pass for his electronic design skills.... the odds of a collector lusting after the Borg like Alephs is smaller than a collector of Daleks. I mean, for $27K you could buy a huge pair of XA100.8's and have lots of money left over to buy a gift for your wife so she won't scream at those behemoths in the living room ( they are HUGE... and, yes, far nicer looking in their own way... a collector might want those. ).

There’s an Aleph 0s on the ‘bay right now for $2500 with free shipping. I’m about $2499 short or I’d buy it.
You could build your own Aleph 2s. My next project with a little help from a friend.

I think I know which ones. They're from Japan and 100 VAC. In fact, I verified it with the seller. They've been up since June or so.
I also called the factory and they don't have replacement transformers, he told me I'd have to get a rather large external transformer to run them.
As far as building an Aleph 2... my skills and equipment have deteriorated. I can do repair soldering and mechanical assembly but I'm just not experienced any more as I was once when I used to build those Heathkits and Dynacos. Or the time I built my first power supply and I knew I didn't need a switch.... 50% per chance... of course, the caps blew.. ;-)
I guess the time in the mid 80s when I smoked $300K of hardware at work sort of told me I should stick with the software. No, I didn't get into trouble. They did not key the connectors as I specified. did you know that a 5V, quarter watt diode will send an inch and half white flame when you apply 69VDC, current limited to 3A.... backwards? Not to mention all the caps that blew up just a split second before the dreaded hissssss!
There is one guy who knows how to build and I hope is reading this....

An external transformer is not difficult to do, in fact a decent Variac will do it -
Superior electric has the best I know.
As to replacement transformers, you can find suitable ones at Antek. You would
want dual 35V secondaries on the largest transformer that would physically fit.

Did I (recently) told how much I like your approach?

You are tempting me... my idea of stuff invariably involves boxes, cables, lights, switches, you name it. And meters! Don't forget meters... and scopes.. I guess all those years programming metrology labs...
Now, real question, could I ship that amp to the factory and will they work on it? Update the caps, etc... I recall speaking with a fellow there back in June about this same amp. But we never got past the variac.
Whatever I buy will need to do a visit to the factory for refurbishing.
Oh, if I went the replacement transformer route... will the factory replace it? Even if I have to provide them with the parts? The ONE thing I don't want to mess with is the power supply.
Tony, all of us have had "incidents" happen, although that $300k is certainly an admirable achievement.
It's not just you, so stoke up that confidence level. Think of how many times your software crashed and
burned. Hardware is just a better test of how things work in the real world.

Funny..
My wife asked me what I want to do when we retire... that's one of my goals. Heat up the iron...
Oh, it was actually MORE than $300K, in 1985 dollars. The board I took was a not-for-flight, 12 layer, conformal coated, current sensing controller for the MX missile. Then you got the Interface Test Adapter analog multiplexer 5V TLL logic, a couple of HP power supplies, a couple of scanners...
All under ATLAS program controlled, yes indeed, I was into ATE then.
Never have I written software that caused so much mayhem on account of a miskey'd DB25 connector.
But, if I'm gonna get back into the groove, I think I ought to start with something running on lower voltages than an amplifier, huh?

35V is not that scary - unlikely to be lethal anyway, afaik. Could bite I suppose. But it's the mains on the other side that keeps you on your toes. The instinct for self-preservation concentrates the mind wonderfully. That and the build guide are your friends.
