and those speakes are often requiring higher Rout than class D can give which can lower the bass response with modern class D amps.

So i think a well build class AB with linear PSU will be your best guess.

And how is a modern AB amp with a mains frequency PS (irrelevant to Zout) going to give a Zout that's high enough to affect the speaker's response in any practical manner?

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll keep my eye out and thread updated. I'll probably try the H2 buffer and see what it adds to the M-504 for now. Get some projects finished up, then start swapping some amps around.
