I installed a 4 channel amp in my suv and installed components along with it. now the factory highs I hooked into the deck and set the gain so that the components matched the factory highs being pushed by my deck. now since ive done this ive had some irregularities in the highs. they almost seem to sound blown. the sound of the highs mixing from the external amp and the deck seem to be very different, but both sound fine by themselves. the difference is more distinct when the music is low. can someone explain whats happeing here. does the external amp change the music this much compared to the deck amp. I have no sound enhancements set on and there is nothing like phase or anything on the 4channel amp.
It's rarely a good idea to use the internal amplifier of a head unit when using external power amplifiers. At low volume, if the levels of the HU driven components and the amp driven components match, the head unit will be driven into clipping when the system is played at higher volume (near or at full power of the external amplifier). If you could apply some sort of high pass filter BEFORE the head unit's amplifier, then the head unit amp may be marginally useful but that's not generally possible. With no filter the head unit's amp is reproducing bass which is eating up most all of the headroom. Using passive high pass filters (capacitors...) after the head unit's amp protects the tweeter from bass but does nothing to prevent the internal amp from being driven into clipping.
at the bottom of the door the components tweeters have a mounting place on the front of the speaker like traditional coax so I left them there and the factory ones are mounted at the top of the door
If you run the OEM tweeters on the passive crossover for your component speakers (in parallel with the component tweeter), you will change the crossover point. If you don't need them, I'd suggest not using them.

Pull the factory speakers out, they're doing nothing but hurting your sound
