Is it safe to operate the amplifier without load i.e without connecting speakers at its output? In my setup I have two sets of amplifiers connected to one set of Speskers through relay. Based on an external event the relay connects the speakers to either AMP1 or AMP2. So at any point of time only one amplifier will have speakers connected at its output and the other is left without any load. Amplifier can be class AB or D.
I have seen Parrot handsfree kits doing like this but with a 680 ohms 1/2 watt terminating resistor connected to the amplifier output when it is not connected to the speaker. Why 680 ohms and 1/2watt when amplifier is expecting 4 ohm 30 watt or more speaker?
Thanks in advance.
