Can a typical car audio amp be driven with a higher voltage than 13.8VDC without damaging it?? I would like to drive my amp with 30VDC or even 42VDC

Definitely not any typical amp!
I've had them at 16 to 18 volts by accident with no ill effects in the short term. Another was on a power supply when the regulator shorted out and dumped 30V at it. It fried instantly.
Wouldn't recommend it.

Basically, the SMPS has to be changed to the higher voltage. The SMPS -Gurus can probably help you.
There are a couple of amps around that can be run with 24VDC , e.g. Signat ROC-Series and Signat ROM-Series

depends on the amp most go into protection mode hopefully. I think RF max is 15.5 and they shut down at 16v, Ive seen a few amps that can take 17V but if you put like 30V into it I expect the amp wouldnt protect against that high of voltage and will be damaged. I would expect at about 15V max you should be ok.
