Amplifier Advice

I know newb threads are anoying 🙄 ..... but..
I've recently made a 25w x2 amp based on the LM1875 chip (Elliot design) just as a first off project.
My speakers arn't quite audiophile but are resonable enought to warrant a better amplifier to get more out of them.
there 30w nominal 8 ohms speakers, 92db@1m/1w
Can anyone you recommend a Class A design to accomodate them?
I've looked into the Zen v4 and it may be an option bridging them but distorion will be more prominate since each wil lget a 4 ohms load.
Thanks for your time

Is your system loud enough now?

ZenV4 is a good choice. You can always build just two channels (not bridged), then add another set later.

You might also look at the JLH 10W - there's a higher power variant on Geoff Moss's website - see this thread:

Rod Elliot's DoZ is a similar design.

You can extract the very best out of your gainlone before embarking on more ambitious projects. There is room for improvement in the sound of what you have, why not try to better it? Look at what Peter Daniel has created, read all on
I never thought mine was a gainclone.... Al lthe ones i've seen are LM3876 based. Does the Class A mod work with both chips?

Hi fr0st, and welcome🙂

The LM3875 and LM1875 are fundamentally the same, apart from packaging and power differences, so any circuit will work for both. The LM 3876 is sometimes used as a gainclone, but does not perform as well as the other two, I found it sounded compressed, a bit like an FM radio Rock and Pop station.

I recomend trying Thorstens inverted circuit first, before you think of building something new. Even with off the shelf components it sounds better than many other amps.
