I plan on working on an Ampex PR 10 and turning it into a preamp. I want to see if I can get any tips on converting the PR 10 into a Mic Preamp to see if I can do it before I give up and take it to a person.

Anything is possible but a microphone buffer doesn't need half the components looking at the circuit diagram. You only need one tube for a start , even the latest professional compact tube microphone amplifier uses one 12AX7 (A).
