Hi,
Definitely n00b questions....
I used to have the LED type that radio shack used to sell, and miss it greatly. HATE eBay as the last one I tried to buy got outbid within the last 10 seconds again.....
I think I found the datasheets (LM3915.3916), wondering what the difference is between the ICs. I'd like it to make it with the same switchable 2w/200w range that the RS model had as well... so wondering changing which parts would change the value. .
Thanks a bunch.

Hi,
the main difference is
LM 3914: 10 linear steps;
LM 3915: 30dB in 3dB-steps;
LM 3916: VU-Meter with LED at -20, -10, -7, -5, -3, -1, 0, -1, +2 and +3dB.
Hope this can help.

Take a look at Rod Elliott's project 60. You should be able to calibrate using a switch and different resistor values to make what you want.
Still got my old Radio Shack meter.
