Amp has no sub out, would this work?

Hi everybody,

I've tried to figure this out and need some advice. I have an Onkyo A-5VL amplifier without a sub output. I want to build an active subwoofer using a Hypex DS2.0 amplifier.

Can I use the Onkyo amp speaker A outputs for satellites, and hook up the speaker B outputs to the Hypex high level inputs?

If so, after the sub volume, crossover & eq settings are done, would the Onkyo amp volume control also control the sub volume?

I know the easy thing would be to get a different amp or receiver with a subwoofer output but I really like the Onkyo amp and prefer to keep and use it. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi Rick,

I agree with with snappyturtle. It should work great using the speaker level out, A or B to high level in. For music listening I prefer using the high level in to my subwoofer's. The LFE out on the Denon and Onkyo receivers I am using works great for movies but not so much with music. The difference could be that I will run the mains full range and the subwoofer with the lowpass set to overlap the mains. Without the processing of a DSP or receiver I have to move the subwoofer's to get the best sound. Good luck with your project.

Regards,

Matt
