The amp doesn't fade left and right. If i fade to the left or the right, I still get sound from both speakers. I tried doing iPod > amp and I had the same problem. The problem is also still there even if i unplug one of the RCAs. Any ideas?
The only switches on the amp are for crossover and bass boost. I have the crossover set to full, and the bass boost off. Its a Elemental Designs 9.2 amp.
Its a 2 channel amplifier. Yeah, I'm using all 4 terminals. Two wires per speaker. I have 2 speakers hooked up to it.

Do you get sound from both channels no matter which RCA jack you use? Some amps have RCA jacks that send signal to both channels if you use the left channel.

Does it get a little quieter when you fade it to one side or the other? Sounds like you have it bridged. Would you be able to post a pic of your connections at the amp?

No engine noise or hum.
It might get a little quieter, but that might just be in my head. The volume stays about the same. I don't think I have it bridged. I have the first speaker connected to A+ and A- and the second speaker connected to B+ and B-. Bridged would be A+ and B-. I'm sure my connections are correct. I've had the amp for a long time, and it's always had this problem. The amp has correctly faded a couple times. But it's pretty rare. It'll run in what seems like stereo for a moment, and then go back to mono?

Take a meter on ohms and test between the center of the R and L RCA, it should be pretty high. I would think it was in the controls, but then I don't know if a failed op-amp/etc can do this I've never seen that. It could be an oversolder on the board too. Does it have a mono switch for input?
I tested both the RCA cables, and the inputs on the amp. Both read pretty high resistance. Like 30s and 40s.
If you plug in only the right RCA cable, is the right side louder than the left. If you plug in only the Left cable is the left side louder than the right? If so the only thing I can think of would be an open trace on the shield path of the RCA.
if i remember correctly, my sony xplod amp did the same thing. if you have either one of the RCA jacks connected, sound would come out of both speakers, but if you had both RCA's connected THEN used the HU fader, it would fade properly.
A Sony amplifier will play both channels if you only have the left RCA plugged in. If you notice there is (Mono) written in small letters next to the Left Input RCA jack. The amp is designed like this so you do not need Y adapters to play both channels with only 1 RCA cable.
It should have a way to recognize both RCA are in stereo use, need to determine that is working or not if it does mono automatically.
Well, I did try it with an ipod and a different set of RCAs. It still did the same thing.

Well I would have to say that the RCA's are connected to the non-fading sub pre out. But from reading all the information you have provided, that can't be the problem. Next I would say it might be a maulfunction in the fading of the headunit. I didn't read every reply in detail. I just scanned over them. So if you haven't already, I would suggest balancing and fading the entire system from left to right and front to back. If all other speakers balance and fade correctly then the problem has to be within the amplifier.
If you don't have a vast knowledge of power amplifiers and can't properly determine where the damage is located in the circuit, and how to fix it. I would send it into the manufacture if it is still under warranty. If the warranty has expired then I would suggest you simply buy another amplifier.
