I'm after some advice on choosing a 'first' amp to build and am tempted by aca or aleph mini. This will be added to a BA3 (yet to be built, just waiting on the store to get matched jfets back in - which hopefully won't be too long after Christmas). Is there any persuasive argument for one over the other. These will be used to drive spendor sa1 (approx 86db) which are currently driven very well by an audiosector lm3875 clone. I was thinking F4 or aleph J first but wonder if these smaller amps will give me a significant portion of what their larger brothers will do but with a bit less heat sinkage and build complication. Aleph mini looks interesting as it has just that bit more power than amp camp, but apart from that I have no understanding of the differences between them. Many thanks Nigel.
Ive built both. Aleph mini (babelfish mini in my case, almost same thing) has way more dissipation than ACA - I think twice - so we are talking about different amps. Also structure is different, ACA has jfet input, that somehow sounds nicer than Aleph's mosfet input. If your'e gonna build BA3, go for ACA, having it later for PC speakers 😉
I highly recommend also chopper/laptop (smps) supplies, rather than standard transformer/caps etc. Gave me excellent results with ACA 🙂

Thanks a lot for the clarification. Maybe I found this thread a little late but it helped me a lot to make my decision to go for Ampcamp.
