In what position is your back-panel selector switch? Ensure that it's in the center => Stereo. Looks like Jim has verified correct wiring, so that's great.
Give it one more look under the board to ensure that no leads are intermittently shorting against the heatsink.

Well, darn. One guess was that the 39k resistor was somehow making its way into the right channel's signal path when it wasn't supposed to be.
