I am looking to start my living room entertainment project after weeks of lurking. My use will be in a 23'x11'x8' living room, centered at 9' on the 23' length, couch is against a wall of windows, 4' opening to the front door and a hallway 5' away from the edge of my tv stand. 60% tv/movies 40% music.
I want to start with a LCR set and cannot decide between Amiga/sunflower or the diysg Helix MT l/r and MTM center. I'd greatly appreciate a push in one direction or the other by the more knowledgeable.

What is the Sunflower kit?
Amiga Amiga MT Tower Speaker Kit with Knock-Down Cabinet
7" alu woofer / 1" soft dome, crossed at 2 kHz
Helix Denovo Audio Helix Dome MT
7" woofer, unknown material / 1.1" soft dome, unknown crossover frequency
If I had to buy a kit, I would like to have more information than given on the the DIY Sound Group Helix webpage. Other than that, MTM centres are a bad idea as they have a terrible horizontal off-axis dispersion. A 7" woofer will not do for home theatre, so you will need a separate subwoofer. Then the LCR speakers only have to work down to 80 Hz, so they can have smaller woofers than 7" for better dispersion.

my budget for the first round of speakers is $750, a sub is planned but around 6-8 months out.

I recently built a pair of Amigas for music and HT duties and have been immensely impressed. Great full range sound and strong bass all the way down to the mid-30’s, which meant I disconnected my wireless Klipsch sub and just stick with the Amigas.
Assembly was straightforward and they only needed 10 hours of break-in before they really came alive. The parts express kit has almost everything you need to build them except screws, binding posts, glue and polyfill for the bottom 20% of the cabinet.
Highly recommended - can’t go wrong.
