Hello,
I have acquired a AMC DAC8 digital to analog converter at a garage sale. I know that it is an older unit but this one has never been used.
The problem I am having is that as of now I really don't know any thing about what this unit does or how or where to hook it up. I have never used a digital to analog converter before. I know that it enhances the audio signal some how. Is this something I would hook up to my stereo like a pre amp?
I read some reviews on the unit and they talked about CD signals going into the unit. After all my searching and reading on the net I still could not get any thing solid on how and where this thing should be hooked up and what it really does.. I am hoping one of you guys have some knowledge on this unit and can help me out. I would like to hook it up and try it out but not until I am sure that I am doing it correctly. I would very much appreciate any help
I can get on how it should be hooked up and also what is the proper place to hook it up.. Again it is an AMC Digital to Analog Converter model DAC8.
Thanks>>>>>>>>>>>
It's an external DAC unit.
You'd use it to covert a S/P DIF digital signal from a digital source (a TV, computer, CD player, DVD player or satellite box with a digital output) into an analog signal, which would then feed into a preamplifier.
Most CD players (and other digital sources) have their own built-in DAC, the theory is that the one in the external DAC unit is better. In reality, that depends on your digital source. The AMC DAC8's DAC will almost certainly be better than what you would find in most TVs, DVDPs, sat boxes etc., but if you have a really nice CDP already, it might not be an improvement.
I haven't seen any info on this model, it'd be great if you could pop the lid off it and post some pictures of the inside on here (while it is unplugged of course!).
