Am I imagining things? Fostex FE166E BLH Tweaking

So, I have reached a stage with my Fostex BLH factory build where the drivers are 'run in', the cabs are almost 100% finished (still one more coat of finish to go) and I am now working on tweaking the stuffing...

So, first thing, since the drivers have broken in and I have put on the final baffle. Vocals have become a little indistinct. The nasal and chesty symptoms... Anyway I found this invaluable thread: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/162131-chesty-nasal-sound.html#post2100035

I Added some stuffing behind the driver (experimentally – it can easily be removed)) and stuffing the 'sand enclosure' has certainly cleaned up the vocals a lot. In fact I might lean out the stuffing a bit as it has robbed a bit from the bass...

My question however is this.

When I replaced the drivers I put them in upside down... By that I mean instead of having the lugs at the bottom the connector lugs are now at the top... It might be my imagination but I can swear some of the pre 'break-in' honk has come back!!! It now sounds like the driver is in need of a BSC circuit to tame the rising response...

What have I done to do this? Surely just turning the drivers shouldn’t make such a big difference...
