Aluminum for Apogee Ribbon

I am thinking of trying a pure foil ribbon for the midrange ribbon on my set of Divas. I can find some aluminum foil which is (7.2 micron) x 18” ,1235-0 Aluminum. Would that be usable for a ribbon?

Hi Andrew,
If you're looking for a direct replacement, meaning no changes to crossovers, then you should match the impedance of your new ribbons to the originals. The impedance will be determined by the dimensions (including thickness) of the ribbon. Do you know what the thickness of the original ribbons were?

Also, can I ask where you found the thin foil?

I don't mind changing the crossover as I suspect that the impedance will be well below 1 ohm for a pure foil ribbon. Maybe a matching transformer? I'll get back to you on the source as soon as I finalize the pricing.
