Hi all,
just wanted to report excellent experience so far with aluminium nitride insulators for TO247/TO3P and TO264 sourced from China/AliX.
The are flat, they don't break (at least not when they fall down the bench) and they conduct heat extremely well - my scientific proof:
Compared same thickness pads (0,6mm) made from alumium oxyde (sourced from AliX as well), hold it with two fingers, heat it on the far side with a lighter. With alumina it was 15s until I couldn't stand the heat, with those "cheap" Chinese aluminium nitride I had to let go after 5s.
Best,
Markus

Real scientists get their fingers burnt! Yes AlN is much better conductor of heat than Al2O3, so this is to be expected. AlN is better than many metals including steels.
My post was not to point out that AlN is a superior material to transfer heat, but to proof, that not everything from AliX is fake.
Would I pick it if I had a professional business selling hundreds of units a year? No!
We are DIYers, and €10 for a pack of 10 of these insulators is a steal, and can really make a difference in an DIY amplifier depending on the circumstances.

Perhaps only the semiconductors are fake. Oh and copper wire (CCA is often sold as solid copper). I've been burnt by fake ICs, transistors and power converters (low voltage - I don't buy death-traps!). Electric motors always seem to be as advertised though.
Do let us know when they have affordable diamond pads 🙂
