Agree that "ruler flat EQ" is usually not to my taste, nor do most gurus recommend it. I have used active EQ for years now, varying between my own "equal loudness" EQ based on 1/3 octave pink noise, and lately using the B&W recommended EQ(s) from a 1974 article, essentially +3 on the low end to -3 dB on the highs.
