Altec Lansing VOTT

The A series VOTT bass cab seems very interesting. But is it a bass horn? It looks like a front loaded high-mid horn with a huge reflex cabinet on the back of the driver.
So how does the bass keep up with the midrange? What is the typical cross over frequency?
How does it compare to a Karlson or Karlsonator?
Thanks. I am about to build something for my 15s and the VOTTS are rather large but what the hell... I find it hard to deside which design to go for. High efficiency and dynamics are pri 1.

The A7 15" speaker horn provides a rising response from around 200 to 700 Hz, around 5 dB gain over a front loaded speaker in that range.
That increased gain helped "keep up" with the high frequency horns used, crossed typically from 500 to 800 Hz.
The huge port area results in a Fb around 60 Hz, response drops off at around 24dB per octave below that.

Karlson enclosures use a resonant front chamber and bass reflex, not much gain compared to a standard bass reflex, but "interesting" (odd..) dispersion.
