Hello,
Is there any knowledge of people/companies in Europe still doing field coil conversions of Altec drivers?
Thanks

Conversion which way?
Permanent>Field or the other way round?
I love Field Coil speakers, have made a few, "no big deal", but a lot of expensive high precision machining is needed.
That, besides winding and feeding the field coil, which is a problem on itself, but still very doable.
Absolute worst case, if you can do the electromagnetic design by yourself, it reduces the problem to finding a good CNC metal machining shop, many available.

Ah should have been clearer: permanent-> field coil
Looking in particular for conversion of a 605B coaxial speaker, ideally both drivers, 'worst case' HF driver only

Hi Geluidloopt,
I found some of my links/notes from having researched the field-coil when doing some work for Cogent. Perhaps the links will be of some help.
These links: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/field-coil-conversion-for-jbl-altec-and-western.203185/, https://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=hug&m=156753, and http://www.ch-audio.com/CH288287.html is referred to in this one: https://www.hostboard.com/forums/f700/179062-field-coil-conversion-diyaudio-site/index2.html.
I do not want to get into a discussion re merit/demerit of the field-coil, but I have heard Cogent's rendition of the MI-1428B and I did like it. So, please keep me informed, I do have the machining and coil winding ability, but not the re-design.
Kindest regards,
M

Thanks for the links mefistofelez! I had read most of these already and have contacted Chela at ch-audio.com a while ago. But since he is now in South America and basically swamped in projects, he thought it was not feasible for him to do the conversion
Hi limono,
from what I understand, and I may well be wrong, they have their own FC motors, cf.

I have a pair of these Classic Audio Loudspeakers, the T1.4. It is all 4 way field coil.
They convert the drives to FC themselves.
