Altec 605B

605Bs have a 515B diaphragm assembly, but the 416's smaller motor, so all things considered, lacking any measured specs it's better IMO to design based on the 416 since better too big and reduce it than trying to find/use a suitable box stretcher. 😉

Regardless, neither driver's published specs will yield much bass if a Basic T/S box is calculated. Instead, around 225-300 L net is a typical range for any of the 416, 515, 604, 605 series with tunings from as low as 16 Hz like I use for dual 515Bs in ~566 L to the more typical 27-35 Hz of Altec's largest vented cabs as well as Iconic's Stonehenge V. IOW, a cab that's at least 50% of its Vas if you have any idea what it is, otherwise err on the large size is what I've done and recommend.

Note that if driven with a high output impedance, then BIB (bigger is better) tuned to around Fs is desirable.

It's true that the 605 models best in about 100L, but it just won't have any bass in the that size box. I don't know why, but I've never seen anyone do it that small.

You seem to have found this with your box. Don't know why, but that's how it is. GM offers good advice born of many years experience. The models may say otherwise, but real life applications show it needs a big box.

Strange, huh?
