After your post, I posted my own measurements showing the DCX2496 goes down to .0037% THD+Noise. I hope curious minds, such as GM, will want to have a peek. Posts 4026 and 4027.
I bet you couldn't measure as good with the Altec passive crossover anywhere near a fluorescent lamp, audio gear, or microwave oven, not to mention the way passive crossovers impair sound quality in several other ways.

There's something odd about that website. Can't access it. And does it have a commercial taint?
Funny thing, whenever I ask for some evidence the DCX2496 is faulty, I always get an answer like "have to go to work now". That includes several efforts at the DIYaudio DCX forum.
I hope Hearinspace can help when he has the time since he thinks "there are probably others".
