As the Title says, I'm looking for the Hornresp Parameters for the Altec 288 compression driver.
Specifically, I have a 288-8G & 288-16H, but any 288 Alnico parameters will do for now.
I'm looking to simulate a LEcleche, Tractrix, radial (like a Fostex wood horn), wood multicell, like a 805b, and a paper horn like the inlowsound.
My listening distance is only 10 feet, and I'm not too concerned about directivity, but more concerned about low extension under 500hz, despite only having a horn depth of around 20" including driver. I have a single Altec 805b multicell horn, that fits nicely on top my Onkens. I currently have 802-and 511b sitting on top. I would love to source another multicell, but haven't had any luck.

Altec 805b and Onken
Hello Crow, my first post here! I found your post via google search for Altec 805b for my Onkens. Appears you have only the one 805, but I am curious how you find the integration with your Onken? To date, I've been using the 806/811 from my Valencias and just got a pair of 288g to try some bigger horns that are comfortable with a 500Hz crossover. Any input on your experience with Onkens is appreciated--including pointing me in the right direction if you've posted about this before.

I currently have the 802 with the 511b horn crossed over using active MiniDSP out to bi amp with tube power on top and solid state on the bottom. The crossover point i played with and ended up with 500hz with a 48db slope.
Comparing this to my single 288/805b combo, the 288 is noticably smoother, with more micro detail. I attribute this to the larger magnet and less compromised horn. It doesn't extend up as high as the 802, but both really need a super tweeter anyway. I've been using a heil tweeter coming in at around 7khz.
I personally think the 288-8g has huge potential if mated with a deserving horn...just a question of what. The multicell is not ideal as it still sounds metallic, hence my curiousity with the paper inlowsound horn or a wood horn. Was close to winning a jabo horn on ebay, which is designed for the 288 as well. But, this is a hobby, so I'm looking to experiement and learn with the diy route, but I want to start on the right foot with hornresp, and getting the right horn profiles.

To answer your question about the onken. They are phenominal, and have ended my search in bass cabinet design. I have the a7 vott cabs, and the onkens can't be beat for effortless flat 20hz extension and effiency that keeps up with the horns in dynamics too. The 15" 416 barely moves to make air moving bass in the room. I used to believe that smaller 6" woofers were better because they are faster, but my theory is that if the 15" has to barely move to make this much bass, then distortion figures are very low, making the cleanest bass.

You are right on that. Less movement of the membrane is less distortion. And, the bigger the membrane the more air-movement....so "bigger" bass. Also, because of the low distortion (less movement) you can get away with using thinner ply, mdf or whatever material you want to use.....althoug, never hurts making a rock solid enclosure.

I was going to reach out to him for the same questionA Hornresp simulation of the on-axis frequency response is also shown. Compare this to the measured frequency response further down the page. The agreement is quite good, even considering that Hornresp simulates axisymmetric horns, and this is a rectangular horn with a wide mouth.
