I have a pair of altec 1579As, and doing a bit of research online came to this site:
http://www.eonet.ne.jp/~audio/1579A.htm
Unfortunately, I don't know any japanese. Can anyone shed some light on it?
Thanks much.

Try the Altec Lansing Heritage site here: www.audioheritage.org/
You might either find the information you seek or someone who knows something about these modules.

says:
1597B/C Equalized Preamplifier
Converts most Altec mixer inputs to accept magnetic phono input. Equalized to meet RIAA standards.
So looks like my units are 1597B and not 1579A (which is the code for the monitor panel).
