Alpine CDA-9827

I recently purchased and installed an Alpine CDA-9827 CD tuner. I soon realized that the quality of the FM Tuner was very poor to say the least. Static can frequently be heard and the unit has trouble searching for stations unless it is set to the weak signal mode. It seems to consider all stations to be weak, I've had much cheaper Cassete/Tuner units work and sound much better.
I've checked the Antenna wiring and it all looks good.
Considering this a fairly high end Alpine unit I was rather surprised by its poor performance. I have found some reviews on the internet describing the same problem with the Tuner section.

Has anybody else here found these units to have this problem??

I'm probably going to return it to the store and swap it for something else, maybe a Pioneer. They seem to be very proud of the tuner section they use.

I recently installed CDA-9835R and was impressed with its Tuner.
Could it be that you have a faulty unit ?
of course i listen only to FM stations....
