My next set of speakers is an open baffle dipole, so the XO will not be inside the box, thus providing lots of opportunity for tweaking and changing parts to hear the difference.

The resistance depends on the wire gauge, or equivalent wire gauge of foil, (varying by width and thickness). With equivalent resistances, I have preferrred the foil, within it's range. I'm not sure why it seems to sound better, perhaps the physical inertness theories are correct.
In one case, where an L||R circuit is used for house curve/baffle step, a silver foil coil (in series with both mid and tweeter, before splitting the branches) was a worthwhile improvement. For the woofer, which responds very well to low DC resistance, the ERSE Super Q coils have worked out well; Jantzen Cut Toroid (new at Parts Express) will be tried in the next few days, with even lower DCR.
