Hi,
My alpha 5 cd player has just developed a fault in both channels.
The player is producing a lot of distortion and sibilance on both channels. I think it mightbe the TDA1541a DAC, but being no expert I need help.
Thanks.

Sounds like TDA1541 problems. A friend of mine said that these would sometime die due to heat problems and would need replacing.

Hi DR.H,
Thanks for your reply, I think you are correct in your assumption, the tda1541a does get quite hot and there is no heatsink on the device. This contrasts with a friends Cambridge CD2 and CD3, which used four paralleled to achieve 16 times oversampling, each DAC had a large metal bar applied as a heat sink.
Many Thanks for your help.
