Alpair7.3eN or 7PeN FH3

The A7.3eN has been one odmy personal favorites forsome time and the only one on my favorites list that fits in FH3). I haven't done a complete eval of the A7PeN -- Chris has had them in the A12PeN/A7PeN MTM for the last while. He quite likes them.I has them early on. I had them early in their break-in cycle and i found that if i was playing anything with a hint of hard top, the A7; took you right to the edge... they are ruthless. I never did get a chance to try them with an SE amp which i think could be a very good match.

It was almost like the paper cone fit the stereotype of a metal cone, the A7.3 that of a paper cone... go figure.

So if you don't need the A7p's extra sensitivity, i still favour the A7.3 (but wish i could afford some A7 MOAP).

At least a couple pair of A7PeN are out in the field and reports back have been very positive.

A MOAP is an A7 metal with a special cone. The surface of th ecome is bombarded to change the top few moleculaes into sort of a ceramic. They are very rare with almost all units in Japan. AFAIK Chris is the only one outside Japan with A7 MOAP and Scott & another with A10 MOAP. They are expensive. If you want a pair you send Mark your money and then patiently wait untilmore are made.

As I'm possibly the only forum member with enough direct exposure to all 3 current versions of the Alpair 7 - I'll offer the observation that it's not only the most neutral / "transparent" of the trio, but likely of any FR driver I've heard. Of course, they still have excursion related limitations.

For those familiar with the "polka dot" treatment, these haven't been - at over $500 landed cost per pair ....

They currently reside in a pair of FH3 - a very nice combination.

Perhaps Scott has similar experience with the 10's - i.e. comparison between at least the 2 metal versions?
