I went to visit Madisound to get the info on the Mark Audio Alpair 7.
(bear with me, this is a single driver question rather than construction tip)
The measures given are a cutout of 103mm. I have a hole saw that can do that pretty well.
The outside diameter though is 135. The flange then is about 16 mm which is huge and bigger than my rabetting set.
I'm just confirming that actual construction goes this way for the Alpair 7.
Today I twiddled with what I use for a trammel and a 3/4 bit. In combination the trammel pin just clears the router base and will cut the necessary wide rabbet then using a hole cutter to make the cut out.
The goal is flush a mount which is a personal preference.

In looking at the Alpair 7 I wondered why the large flange? In size and build is it not close to the CHR-70?
Also (my head is starting to spin with different drivers now) which Mark Audio is
as efficient as the FE167e or close? Which plays equally loud with the 167e at low levels? I usually build one test unit at a time.
I was looking at SPL. Alpair 7 has 84.5db. FE167e has 94db (from the original box notes.) Maybe would have to move up to Alpair 10?
Note to self: I have to spruce up the build that the 167e is in now as well.

The most efficient MA is the Alpair12 at just over 89. FE167 is ~92.5. The MA trades efficency for bass extension & smoothness. Mark is going to try to get the A10 up to over 88 dB. The A7 is 4 ohms which if you have a t-amp or most SS amps means you gain 3dB there.
Both the A7 & A12 come with a Bezel cover that i wish Mark would leave loose in the box (as planned for the A10, so people can drop them into their old boxes), but the biggest distribs want them. It makes the bezel wider & deeper. Without it the surround would be flush with the bezel (and therefore the baffle. It does stiffen the basket a bit.

Comparison of the Alpair and CHR70 leads me to favor the CHR70 given the efficiency similarity (84.5 db for both.) A wide bezel treatment for the less expensive item might dress it up.
I think I will practice my construction skills and make router jigs for a while.
