woofer

hi,
the woofer is Peerless vline woofer. Smooth, extended response with low distortion. Truncated polymer frame with chamfered edge simplifies installation. Magnetically shielded. Buyout, limited quantities. Specifications: *Power handling: 60 watts RMS/120 watts max *VCdia: 1" *Le: 0.76 mH *Impedance: 8 ohms *Re: 5.56 ohms *Frequency response: 60-5,800 Hz *Fs: 60 Hz *SPL: 89 dB 1W/1m *Vas: 0.40 cu. ft. *Qms: 3.03 *Qes: 0.51 *Qts: 0.44 *Xmax: 3 mm *Dimensions: A: 5-7/8", 5-1/16" across flats, B: 4-3/8", C: 3"

thanks, bob

Still, relieving the bottom on the A6 will improve mids, allow the system to play louder and give more dynamics.

Do a search on FAST systems, there are a number of threads. Here is one.

A early visualization of our next one. Baffle on mid-tweeter unit will be changable so we can try FF85/CHR70/EL70/A6/A7 etc.

I also have a much simplier head unit for A5 in the works.

Do you want to do passive XO (1 amp) or active (2 amps)?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

You could make a "shoe" on that, like Canon uses on their cameras. Then you could swap out heads to match whatever mood you're in. A lot more work building extra head cabinets, but the switch time would be less than a minute. Of course, I also looked at that and thought "robot body w/ command module." I think I need some more coffee.

Exactly. We will probably only build one set of the complex head units, but Chris has sourced a bracket system that will let us swap them... the idea is to consider creativity and promote the EL166 woofer unit (MA $6 woofer) ... the A5 head unit will be made of PVC pipe (the critical part is already done). One could just extend the top of the box to make an attached head unit, to get a monkey coffin, fix 1 IKEA blanda bowl to a pice of PVC or carboard tube, make a simple rectangular based box, or <insert imaginative idea here>

I want to do a passive crossover with one amp a dynaco stereo 70.

Woofer needs to be more efficient than the A6 (not hard) and you'll want to XO near the baffle step frequency. You won't want too wide a box, or the passive component values needed will get too large to be practical.

The illustrated box will be passively XOed, box width indicating an XO in the 300 Hz region. Prototyping will be done with a (modified) DCX2496.
