Alodine Question

I have an aluminum chassis (BUD #1422) - 17" x 10" x 5". I would like to coat it in alodine to get a nice gold look and prevent fingerprints from forming. How much alodine in the liquid form will this require? I found a place online that sells 1qt for $13 - will this be enough? Thanks.

Those are pretty good prices. I wonder how they ship it. The best way would be dip it copeletely in the solution. Usually few minutes is enough. If you don't want to buy that much of alodine, you can do it side after side of your chassis. All you need is a flat bottom container and 1-2" of fluid. I had as little as 3/8" of fluid and still got good results (but my panels were smaller). It is important to clean it well before alodine. I used scotch brush, but some sort of deoxidizing spray would be recommended.

Usually with shipping stuff like this (chemicals) they use special sort of packaging and career, which increases price substantially. That's why some companies ship it in a powder form instead of liquid. The ones I found thou had a minimum order amount which was quite big.

Remember also, that alodining doesn't protect against scratching, like hard anodizing does. But it's pretty good for fingerprints and corosion protection .
