Almost working PSOne Projector

Hey Everybody

I am using a PSOne screen and a Overhead projector at the time for testing.

It looks okay I am pleased with the quality if I only could get the whole thing focused 🙁

I probably know what is wrong just need your input.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Sibce the controller board is to big so I have to use this box thing that I have made, and since the lense that came with the overhead didn't work, unless I moved it futher away than the wall, I have made one myself (an uncorrected duplet See Here) 180mm Focal Point, The lense taht came with it was 310mm Focal Point.

The problem is that it is impossible to get the whole thing focused, I can only get the Center focused correctly and no chance on the corners at all.

I think it is because I am to far away from the Fresnells perhaps but I am not sure, so can anybody help me?

Sorry for the quality it is only a cheap 1,3 Megapixel

From behind, notice the cooling device 😀

OHP lens is designed to focus on the stage. since you raise your LCD that high, it is hard if not impossible to get it focus.

I understand why you made a box for it. But you really can make the LCD flat with the controller board. search the forum to see how one other member did. he also used PS1 lcd.

I personally haven't built an ohp projector, but I imagine that it might help the focusing if you lower the lcd a little closer to the fresnels. Even though the ohp has the adjustable focus mechanism it might have a hard time doing so with how high the lcd is placed. My 2 cents.

Right you are.

I moved the screen closer to the Frensel's, by flipping the controllercard.

Besides that I used the original lense from the OHP, and the image is great now (Well in focus).
Now I just need to get a brighter light. Its only 2500Lumens at 250W and I don't quite know how to boost the light.

I want to build a box for it, but I'm a bit scared of splintering the Fresnel's since these are the only ones I got.

I can understand the hesitation when it comes to cutting the fresnels to size. What you could do is use cheap fresnels (page magnifiers) from staples or officemax, I have seen others use them with some decent results. That is what I am going to use on my next cheap project. A box is definitely worth doing though.

The first thing I tried to find where page magnifiers but they can't be found in denmark :bawling:

So I asked in this forum about the things sold as 150" bigscreen TV on Ebay but I was revised not to because of bad quality. And I to think that the box is a great thing mainly becasue my girlfriend don't like the idea of the OHP being permanently in our living room 😕 😀

this was at full 30*30cm screen and no trasparency at the ohp.

now you have 10% or less trasmitance on the lcd and lets say 33% less area on your 5,6" lcd, So 2500lumnes *0.33=825 lumens on the behind lcd, 825*0.1=82 lumens after lcd.

lets say you have 150lumens on the best case.

Well, I feel that I may have been to hard on the quality of those fresnels. I think that if you are not over-concerned about image quality (which I don't think you are since you are using an PSone display) a couple of those lenses should be allright. I *guess* the quality is similar to the pagemagnifiers.

I think almost all those lenses are around 300mm focal.
