All-in-one semi-diy projector

This is how I made an all-in-one projector. The original projector was a Infocus Litepro 770. The are other similar Infocus projectors but the key is that they all like look like this:

I was also given an insignia 7" lcd protable dvd player. The backlight and speakers were later destroyed in an accident but all of the other components work great. The anti-glare film was also strippable.

I made a frame using picture framing matboard and glue to secure the 7" lcd to the original mount

I used telephone wire to extend the cables from the lcd to the dvd player

The dvd player was mounted outside

Much cleaner and nicer to look at than if I built my own box

Here it is next to my future retrofit, the ASK 970 projector. I'll be looking for a 10" portable for this one.

Let see some images

Lights on

Lights off. Note uniform focus and brightness. SDE is noticeable, but that's simply because of the limitation of the lcd display, which I believe is only 234i

The portable is nice in that I can connect external video sources to this unit

The nice thing about this lcd panel is that it has a fast speed, so I'm not noticing any delay during fast gameplay

Note the offset of the projector relative to the screen. Unlike most diy, where the centerline of the projector is the ceterline of the screen, I can leave this below the bottom of the screen, just like a commercial model

Whites aren't totally white, but still more than acceptable

As you can see, text on a 234i res lcd isn't the greatest, in fact it pretty much sucks. Stick to movies or text larger than what you see here.

animation is bright and clear

So how big an image can these projectors display?

How about 150"

So how much did all this cost in the end?

Portable Insignia 7" dvd- $0.00 (a gift)
Telephone wire + additional parts- $0.00
Matboard for the framing- $0.00
Infocus Projector (from a computer surplus store) - $50.00

Total- $50.00
