To all who use a 30Watt amp:
I got a Aleph30 clone driving 'Monitor Audio Silver 3' 2 way, base reflex with 2 x front ports - speakers.
They are rated as follows:
Freq. Resp: 45Hz-25KHz
Sensitivity: 88dB
Impedance: 8ohm
Recommended amp: 30-150Watt
My problem is that this speakers do not sound good at all in the lower freq. range. I am now running my passive pre-amp together with these, which is better but not what I want.
1.) What speakers do you find best to use with this amp / this size amp?
2.) Are there a way to improve the bass on these speakers?
3.) While on the subject, will the type or amount of stuffing inside the speaker improve the bass?
Thanx for any help.

HI!
I also have a A30 clone with DIY (homebrew) speakers much like yours (spec.-wise). And it's simply magic. It would be better with more power/sensitivity, but it's very good now so...
3) Yes, very much so. If the box is designed correctly, you don't need much damping material. More damping=tighter/less bass, but you need some to damp the midrange. Mine is designed around the ratio "Phi", and I have only some Acustilux(tm) behind the bass driver
What is your current gain in the ACS (A30)? This affects the bass alot.

Improve Bass?
Abmessungen (B x H x T): 20,0 x 34,9 x 21,0 cm
is a very small LSP. Something like 10-12 liter.
It is not built mainly for to give low bass.
It is built to give Great sounds in MID and upper.
Monitor Audio is good in designing SMALL speakers.
You can be sure they have done what can be done
to lose as little as possible of the Bass.
------------------------------------------------------
🙂 I think you should consider building a BIGGER LSP yourself. 🙂
It will probably cost no more than Monitor Audio,
but you can select Woofers and Box Size to give
a lot more and Better Bass Sound.
🙂 You know you can get All The Help you need
to build a good speaker, by the LoudSpeaker-Guys at this Forum.

/halo - is not built for low bass either

I like your idea, any suggestions on a suitable DIY speaker?

JDeV,
if you look for suggestions for diy speakers that are able to reproduce some bass, and are really loud with your 30Wamp - have a look on my "my first horn experiments" thread in loudspeakers forum.
/Till - has a lot of bass now in his room

Aleph 30
Running factory Aleph 30's on TAD loaded Voice of the Theatre 828 cabinets with TAD 2001 horns above 800 Hz. Very dynamic; but a bit shy on low frequency extension.
