Herm,
I just spoke to Empire Electronics (Mukesh), and it should be fine if anyone else orders the boards, as long as I fax Empire Electronics written permission for the person to use my layout.
I have no problems with you using my layout, and if you e-mail me your name and address, I can fax a letter over to them for you.
I would appreciate it if you also get permission from Mr. Pass to sell the boards.
Let me know soon, since I will be around here for another week and a half, before I fly to France for the summer, so let me know so that I can get that fax sent before I go.

Another Round of Boards
If you guys go at it again with another round of boards, I'd like to purchase a set.

I still think Nelson Pass should take this over so every tom dick and harry isn't selling boards at a profit. Brian could assign purchasing rights to him only.
That sounds like a better idea. I would be quite upset if someone took the design and was making quite a profit from selling the boards.
The only way for people to use my layout at Empire Electronics is with my written authorization. I will pass this authorization on only with the permission of NP.

Clarifying to absurdity probably: Of course NP should rightfully make a profit-I just meant people other than him!
Yes, obviously NP can do whatever he wants with the design. I was referring those other people who like to rip off other's designs and sell them for a commercial profit.

I hope NP takes this up, given that it's an Aleph we're talking about I guess he already has a layout well and truly organised and would only have to order.
It's been a while since I've looked at this design. Can I confirm that the boards suit any Aleph variant?
If anyone finishes up wanting to sell these boards again, please drop me an email. I am in Australia.
Cheers,
Pete

It looks like Herm is looking to organize another order in the near future for the same boards. I received permission from NP, and I gave the board place permission for him to use the layout.
I am sure he will keep the message board posted about the next order. I will be in France for the summer, taking classes at Georgia Tech Lorraine in Metz, France, and unable to organize such orders. I will organize order for other pcbs next fall, if the need is there.

So, Brian, are you going to abandon the Aleph 2 project and leave for Europe soon or are you going to get it to "working condition" and fine tune it when you get back? Is your chassis done yet? You'll be in Europe for a year? You could still design the Aleph P pcb while you're there, right? I'm sure you will have a laptop with you everywhere you go. Have a good trip! Enjoy!
I have put my projects on hold. My chassis is very close to finished. I am in the process of moving out my dorm right now, so I just left all of my projects tucked away under a table in Dr. Leach's audio lab for the summer. I will finish them when I get back at the end of July. I will in France for 10-11 weeks.
I will have my laptop and an internet connection over there. We will see how the summer goes.

Yah,
Thanks Brian,
Got my boards today. They look great. I agree with the spacing of the small transistors. A wee bit close... Otherwise, excellent!
Will start populating tonight...

Yeah, the spacing was a bit small, but that is what you get when you use default models for devices. The same for the TO-220 model, the hole is too small to mount a screw through for a heatsink.
These are all easy revisions to make for the next time the boards are ordered.
Otherwise, I am quite satisfied with the boards.

Got mine ! They sure have that quality vibe that I thought was worth the extra. Certainly thick enough! nice
The screening will actually help avoid mistakes. Also the thank you etc. is pretty cool- good thinking Brian!
I too noticed the close Q4,5 spacing, but holding them to the light
I can see they aren't touching. I have an excuse to get a pointier soldering iron now 🙂
I these are changed then I suspect another setup fee, so we should report back here if there are any problems, for the next wave of orders, So they know if the mods are worth it. The heatsink hole are so easy to drill out that I don't think they are worth changing.
Thanks again
Mark

Speaking of heatsink holes on the board ...... why can't Q1, Q2 & Q3 be installed with the heatsink vertically and consequently do not need the holes on the board? Of course, the other option is to drill bigger holes.
fcel,
Q1,Q2 and Q3 can be done vertically, I just like the appearance of them when they are flat with a small heatsink.
I am going to drill the holes bigger (a rather simple task) and mount them with small heatsinks.
