Aleph X and IRFP044N

Hello,

I have around 100 pieces of IRFP044N lying around and I want to use them in a
low voltage (+/-15V) high current (10A) Aleph X. In the original design the IRFP044
where used. Is there any argument against the N version, has someone any
experience with them ?

044N has a low power rating (120W vs 180W), a higher thermal resistance from chip to case (1.3 vs 0.83), but lower capacitances (Ciss 1500 vs 2500pF). Otherwise pretty much identical.

I have used both without problems, but chose to use 044 in the end only for thermal reasons.
