621,01$! I assume Choky could macgyver this amp from a toaster and a moisty thread... 🙂 But DIY beside, I think that's a very good price for this amp - especially with the generous repair option.
Too bad, my bid was refused because of this USA-only-restriction. 🙄

MacGyver: He is the guy you want at your side when you're incarcerated in a south american prison camp to distract the guards with a little bomb he tinkered from a used chewing gum and a rusty paperclip.

I didn't want to keep the amp. It was intended to be part of a "SOS Kinderdörfer" christmas project. But no prob, I have enough other ideas. 🙂
I am happy to report that the Aleph J was purchased by one
of our own, and he is sending it back to me for a free rebuild.

Thats very nice of you Nelson
Actually it is simply that my world view does not include
broken copies of my amplifiers.
😎
I suspected it, Nelson, that you consider your amplifiers as your children more or less.

Update on the Aleph J in bad shape
I am the guy who bought the battered Aleph J on Ebay late last year. After purchase, I contacted NP to ask about parts, such as a new transformer. That was when he informed me he would extend the offer for repair of the unit to me as the new buyer if I shipped it to First Watt. Well, I did so, almost immediately. Last week a new packing box with an Aleph J inside arrived. It had the signal boards reworked with new parts as necessary, a completely new power supply, and a new rear panel.
It has been playing in my system for a number of days now, and it is really something!
I have a pair of monoblock Aleph J DIY amps I built, but "the original" obviously is in the "sweet spot" and I have a way to go to try and get my other pair to sound like this!
I know everyone here knows what a wonderful person NP is, with his generosity in making his creations available to us DIY types. I now can state from first hand experience his generosity extends to another total stranger who bought a battered Aleph J and now has a rebuilt, stunning amplifier in its place. There are not many humans, much less business owners, I have run into that would ever consider such a gesture.
I for one am very appreciative, and will spread the word to my non-DIY audiophile friends about Pass Labs. I am planning to try new commercial monoblocks in my main listening area, and just guess what company they will be coming from!
Thanks again Mr. Pass!

I always appreciate the humanity of the majority of our Papa.
Dear Elwood, my friend, what about the Yamaha?

My beloved B2 is still in a state of disrepair as I have been distracted with work and income taxes and family issues. As if I do not have enough to do I have A set of F1 boards I am hoarding parts for, a set of bare Hafler PC19 boards for my DH200, and a Yamaha FZR600R motorcycle I am in progress on. My plate is full to say the least. The weather here has been horrible rain and snow the ground is saturated, usually it as nice here this time of the year .
My best to you all, Elwood

Hi Elwood,
You sure the vfet outputs are still ok? The B2s I see all have damaged vfets, so it's not possible to repair them at all as the parts are out of production for something like 30 years.
Hope your unit is not affected! Hannes
PS: you certainly know that vfets are sort-of jfets and not mosfets?
