I think this CD-ROM has all the necessary controls, and that's the main difference with the others.
So it needs only a external PSU and no other equipment to read audio CDs?
And one more question - how does it sound in comparison with another transports?

The Creative 52X CD-ROM equips remote control. Like a home audio transport.

Power supply is everything. Give it good power source, it would not let you down.
