VERY clean amp. LOVE that logo too.
question:
Why the irfp250's again...just curious. Drop in replacement?

Nice Project
Thanks for the pictures of a very well done project.
Two Questions.
What is considered to be a good CD player? One up to this class system.
I would like to repeat The ealier post for your X-BoSoZ schmetic. Did you consider adding active constent current sources?
Thanks again, your fine work in an inspiration for me to get busy.

Hi Vossie!
Really impressing work!
If you have outputcaps at 47uF inside the feedback loop as I have, then you can go as low as 1 uF and still have a flat responce from 1Hz and up, but you will loose some of the X up till say 20 Hz. At 10uF you have full X from 1Hz and up.
If you have the chance to try both it would be nice to know the result. When I uses 45uF it is because of the 120 ohm load at my XSOZ input. Again, all this only makes sence if you have the caps inside the feedback loop.
Some great job you have done, congratulation.
Regards Henrik.

I consider the Aleph 30 a better fit to my X-BOSOZ for the simple reason that the small listening room does not want too much bass. I used 47uF NP caps on the output of the X-BOSOZ. These large-value caps lets through much more lower frequencies with the result that the Aleph 30 (having half the output power than the Aleph 5) does not overdo the bass for such a small room size (4.5m X 6m).
Nevertheless, The Aleph 5 has huge hands on the lower frequencies and reproduce them with absolute excellence. The higher frequencies are unmistakably crystal clear as well (a nod to Nelson). I have decided that these caps must be swapped for smaller ones - 10uf to 20uf max which I'll do soon.

🙂 🙂 Excellent Job Vossie!!!!!!!!!I only can say guys keep doing this great job for all the newbies like me, because that kind of work encorage us to have no fear to start a nice work like yours!!!!!!!!every time that I see pictures of an Amp. I get more excited waiting for my parts to build my Zen v4. and show the pictures of it to all of you. Thanks and keep building more amps.

Its a pure art 🙂vossie said:Hi 5th element,
Have you listened to the Mission 702s? I have no doubt that better speakers would be an great asset to the system but I am thinking about source component now... (BTW, have you read the reveiws on the 702s?)
Jarno,
I had the engraving done. If I could show you the other side of the triangular plate you would see what happens when you try to engrave yerself...![]()

A good amp can make most speakers sound better. Of course Mission is quite good. If you want to consider something else (and if it must be small) I can recommend the new Von Schweikert VR1, (here in Europ 1500 euro/pair). I dont think you will find better small speakers below $3000.
I've just done some measurements together with JdeV. Just below clipping I get 69W on the one channel and 72W on the other - remember my rail voltages are 36.1 plus and minus. DC offset is -10mv and -55mv.
François,
The heatsinks are not small (600X120*120). The highest temperature is at the top of the sinks and measures 59 degrees centigrade. Mosfet is 76-78 degrees centigrade on the case. Taking into consideration that ambient is roughly 28 degrees and higher rail voltages this is not bad at all. I'm think the upright position of the sinks make a difference as they dissipate much more this way.

Per Nielsen,
The pcb was done by Photocircuit here in CT for under 25$ for both. I got a good deal as I did not pay for the photoplotting (30$). They made it from gerber files and had it tinned - this is why it looks silver.

Henrik,
Thanks, I'll have a fiddle with the X-BOSOZ and post the results.
ThomasLMcLean,
There are so many good CD players. If price is a conscern then I'd go for a trade-in Exposure CD 2010 or Marantz, Rotel 991 or 1070. Otherwise I would go for the later model Marantz or Exposure. Have not tried these with the Aleph 5 but will post once I decided to buy...
I want to re-do the X-BOSOZ on the inside using either point-to-point or proper pcbs so I can get a more compact design. I might look at the current sources you speak of then.
I'll put the gerber files of the pcb layout on the forum today.
