If building a Aleph 3 what would be the min or ideal transformer size ? I have a a Antek 400va 2 x 18v and hope this will work.
yes. this transformer will work great. you can use f.ex a 600VA 2x18V, just to get the transformer temp down. but it's no need.
The rule of thumb is 6-10 times the amplifier's output in VA.
An Aleph 3 is 25wpc, stereo, totaling 50w.
50*6 = 300
50*10 = 500
Your 400VA transformer is right in the middle of this range, so it's perfect!

or rather 2x dissipation as minimum. dissipation for aleph3 is 90W pr ch. so 180W. 400VA is right above minimun. but it will do.
Thank-you everyone ! It seems I spend more time buying parts than building. Its been almost 3yrs looking at all the various options and I'm almost ready to construct my first amp... The Aleph-3 seems like the best choice for me, Again thanks people !

The transformer I speak of is the Antek # AS-4218 it is the shielded version. It has a drain wire to shield between windings where does it go ? Star ground or chassis ground ?
