Has anyone given much consideration to the hookup wire/cable you intend to use for your project?
It may seem a trivial matter but there seems to be a large market for specialist cables aside from even normal speaker cables.
I note in the X Series Mr Pass has used a heavy clear insulated copper standed cable which appears not unlike a thick flat braid.
I assume this type of cable would offer current capacity and flexibility which appears to be a problem with heavy cables.
Can anyone guess what this stuff might be or have other suggestions?
Attached is an image of my Aleph 5 which uses a variety of cable I found in my cable box!

I can honestly recommend Kimber hook up wire. I'm using 19 ga for signals and 14 ga for high current applications. Recently I acquired some 19 ga silver and want to try it in my new projects. I also have some heavy gauge (maybe 4) in teflon and might try it for power supply cables.
Kimber wire is pretty cheap and sounds really good, it's a dream to work with (unlike Cardas), so I think it's a good investment in your upcoming project.

I used some Kimber 14AWG for runs from the jacks to the drivers in a pair of Phoenix I built earlier this summer (active xo in front of the amp). Only 4 of the 6 channels worked at first. After some troubleshooting, I finally checked the wire. I measured no conductivity on some of the runs of wire (some about 4" or less). I replaced those sections with cheap wire from Radio Shack and everything worked fine. Can anyone explain this? Did I get bad wire?
I'm still new to DIY, so I'm not going to put Kimber down before I'm sure this isn't user error, but, it is just copper wire, whose only job is to allow electricity to flow. If it can't even do that properly, it's hard for me to understand why it's worth the premium I paid. It also makes me hesitant to use that wire in an amp, where determining that my amp isn't working because of a piece of wire is much more difficult. I'll be testing wire, along with all other parts I put into my equipment from now on.

No, unfortunately I didn't look inside. It was 2 am on a Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning when I fixed the problem. I just threw the wire away. I still have some wire from the same roll. I'll test it this weekend and let you know if I find anything funny.
BTW, I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from buying Kimber hook-up wire from PartsConnexion, just reporting on an experience I had. I'm guessing it's pretty rare.

I've used ptfe sleeved silverplated copper cable (about 4mm^2) for the powersupply and speaker outputs. For the input I´ve used Kimber pbj.
After first impressions I´ve thrown out the silverplated cable and used some 8mm^2 ofc copper instead (normally used to power small car amps).
The difference was very small (or non existent) unlike my other (AB)amp where the influence is a lot bigger.
I think it´s important to keep the cables as short as possible and don´t think it´s good if an amps looks as if someone has thrown in some cables at random.

If so, what are they?
Is this wire used for low level signals only, or do you use a larger gauge of the same configuration for PSU and output wiring?
