I'm building Aleph 2's. How close (far away) should an input fet be from a toroid so it does not cause hum? is 2" ok?
Any educated guesses are welcome. No Liability. I can change it later easily if it hums. It just looks better this way if 2" will work.
This is not an easy guess. It depends on many factors (type of toroid being one). I'd say it's OK, and when it hums just move it further away. But I doubt if the distance will make any difference.😉
You can also try to shield toroid with a copper tape.

My toroid and pcb are at opposite ends of the chassis....but then my chassis is radically different from what most of you have done anyway.....I could have put the pcb and transformer next to each other, but it didn't make sense. I have a very small amount of hum and may try surrounding the toroid with a copper ring, or having some steel cans spun to enclose them completely for best shielding. Needless to say the front panels and anodizing are still to come......

Thanks! I just finished the second one and have had it on-line now for just over an hour........You will never regret building yours. I just improved my system about 5000%......
Both amps worked fine on forst power up too and that makes me really happy.
