Aleph 0s question

Is there a loss of fidelity using an unbalanced pre-amp with
the Aleph 0s? other than the inherent gain of using balanced
over unbalance cables.

to quote the Owners Manual:

"To operate the amplifier with a single unbalanced input, a
male adapter should be used which brings the signal into pin 2
and grounds pins 1 and 3. Failure to ground the pin 3 negative
input will result in 6 dB of loss of voltage gain, but will not
otherwise cause difficulties."

sorry, because this isn't technically a DIY question, but i figured
this was a pretty good place to ask the question. Unless, you
could tell me where to pick up a unbalanced to balanced adapter!

Ahhh, the Os....

I was lucky enough to borrow one of these for a while... Excellent amplifier and much more punch than its power rating gives it credit for....

I would suggest that you Do Not us a matching transformer to go from single ended to the XLR input. Just go to your nearest Guitar Center or other pro sound outfit and get a couple of Neutrik male XLR plugs (I think Pass used gold plated connectors or you could go for silver but I'd match the amp). Neutrik uses real silver for the pins of their connectors so if its silver you want this is the best way to get it...

Hack off your pair of single ended cables and solder the Neutriks in place following the directions from the manual...

You might also take this opportunity to consider building a second pair of DIY interconnects just for this pre-power amp run... Check out Cable Asylum for tons of good info and a fun project!!!
